Design Concept
This project reimagines the visual identity of Guayaquil, Ecuador through a branding system centered on community, cultural heritage, and connection to the natural environment. Rather than positioning the city primarily as a tourist destination, the identity was designed to appeal to potential residents by emphasizing warmth, livability, and local character.
The abstract logo mark draws inspiration from multiple elements deeply tied to Guayaquil’s identity, including the architecture of the historic Iglesia del Cerro Santa Ana in the Las Peñas district and the organic forms of Ecuador’s native ti plant. These references are unified within a rounded diamond shape representing a location pin, reinforcing ideas of place, belonging, and rootedness.
Soft letterforms and a vibrant color palette establish a sense of friendliness and accessibility, reflecting the city’s community-oriented atmosphere and tropical environment. The resulting system balances contemporary simplicity with culturally informed symbolism, creating a flexible identity that communicates both the energy of an urban center and the richness of its local heritage.
